Dionne Warwick Praises Sabrina Carpenter but Clarifies Lighthearted Comments

Fame often comes with both praise and criticism, as seen with young artists like Sabrina Carpenter and music legend Dionne Warwick. Recently, Warwick sparked discussion during an NPR interview segment titled "Nobody Asked for This (But I’m Gonna Tell You Anyhow)," where she rated popular tracks by artists such as Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Kendrick Lamar, and Carpenter herself.

On September 27, Warwick shared the segment on the X platform, rating the viral tracks using a unique system of ‘Dionnes.’ Sabrina Carpenter’s song "Please, Please, Please" received a favorable 4.5 Dionnes, but her hit "Espresso" didn’t resonate as much with Warwick. When asked if she could relate to the lyric “I’m working late ’cause I’m a singer” from Carpenter’s song, Warwick responded, “That does not resonate with me.”

Despite this, Warwick praised Carpenter, acknowledging her talent and potential in the music industry. She also took the opportunity to caution the press against misquoting her or sensationalizing her comments. Warwick clarified on X that her remarks were meant to be lighthearted and should not be taken too seriously. She humorously added, "Why would this resonate with me? I do not work late. I go to sleep… Sabrina is a wonderful young vocalist doing her thing. I wish her nothing but success and longevity."

Warwick also expressed admiration for other young artists during the segment. She praised Chappell Roan’s "Good Luck, Babe!" for its originality, comparing it to the music of ABBA, and awarded it 4.5 Dionnes. Charli XCX’s "Guess" earned a solid four. Warwick, however, made it clear she was unfazed by the ongoing Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar feud, wondering why the two were bickering in public.

Ultimately, Warwick’s comments reflect her respect for the new generation of artists while calling out the media for focusing on unnecessary drama.
