Trump Misidentifies Nicky Jam During Campaign Event

Nicky Jam has officially announced his support for Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

On Friday, September 13, the former president held a campaign rally at the World Market Center in downtown Las Vegas. At the event, 43-year-old reggaetón star Nicky Jam took the stage to show his support for Trump, who is running against Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election.

In a slip-up, the former president mistakenly called Nicky Jam “she” when introducing him to the crowd for his endorsement speech.

Trump said from the stage, “Do you know Nicky? She’s hot. Where’s Nicky?” while looking for the singer. He soon noticed Nicky Jam and corrected himself, saying, “Oh, look, I’m glad he came up,” as he patted the musician’s shoulder.

Nicky, dressed in a black sweatshirt and a red “Make America Great Again” cap, then went on stage to give a short statement.

Nicky, who moved from Massachusetts to Puerto Rico as a child, said, “It’s an honor to meet you, Mr. President. People from my background don’t usually get to meet the president, so I’m fortunate. We need you back as president.”

Nicky Jam is among several music stars endorsing the 78-year-old businessman-turned-politician in his 2024 re-election campaign. In late August, Puerto Rican reggaetón stars Anuel AA and Justin Quiles showed their support for Trump at a rally in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Other artists backing the former president include Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, Kodak Black, Lil Pump, Sexyy Red, and Billy Ray Cyrus.

Nicky, who announced last October that he will be “retiring soon,” recently talked about his decision.

He said over Zoom from his Miami home, “I’m not going to be a singer forever. I think I’ll probably step back soon… Not completely retire, since singers never really retire. You just slow down.”
