Housekeeper Seeks Co-Trustee Role in Richard Simmons’ Estate After Alleged Pressure to Decline

Richard Simmons' longtime housekeeper, Teresa Reveles Muro, is seeking to become co-trustee of his estate following his death in July. Muro, who worked for Simmons for nearly 40 years and discovered his body, claims she was pressured by Simmons' brother, Leonard, to decline the co-trustee role while she was still grieving.

Muro filed a petition stating that just days after Simmons’ death, she, Leonard, and his wife, Cathy, went to view his body. During this vulnerable time, she alleges Leonard and Cathy took her to the lawyers handling the trust, where she signed a document without fully understanding its implications. Muro claims she felt pressured when told that mistakes could jeopardize her inheritance rights, leading her to believe she had to sign the document immediately.

After receiving a letter indicating she would no longer have a significant role in managing Simmons' estate, Muro consulted an attorney. She now aims to regain her position as co-trustee, asserting she is best suited to fulfill Simmons' final wishes.

Muro's legal team has attempted to communicate with the law firm overseeing the trust since late July, but they have received no clear explanation for Leonard's refusal to allow her to serve as co-trustee as Simmons intended. She is asking the court to appoint her as co-trustee and to prevent Leonard from selling any of Simmons' assets or exploiting his name and image until a decision is made.

Simmons passed away in July from an accidental death attributed to complications from a fall, with heart disease listed as a contributing factor. Leonard has not responded to requests for comment regarding the situation.
