Hogestyn first joined "Days of Our Lives" on January 24, 1986, and went on to portray John Black—a complex character who evolved from a spy to a private investigator—over 4,200 episodes. His partnership with Deidre Hall, who played Marlena Evans, created one of daytime television's most memorable love stories.
In addition to his work on the soap opera, Hogestyn appeared in CBS's musical series "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and several TV movies throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including "Generation" and "Night Sins."
