Courtney Cox Hopes to See Dewey Riley Return in Scream 7

Courtney Cox recently revealed her desire to see David Arquette's character, Dewey Riley, return to the Scream franchise despite his on-screen death in the fifth film, 2022's Scream. In an interview with Variety, Cox expressed her hopes that audiences could see Dewey again, highlighting her connection to Arquette, her ex-husband, with whom she shares a 20-year-old daughter, Coco.

The Scream franchise saw renewed success with 2023's Scream VI, which had the highest opening weekend box office in its history, leading to the announcement of a seventh film in August. However, David Arquette cast doubt on his character's return when asked by a fan on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. He laughed, saying, "I don’t think so—I mean, I don’t know! I guess there's a chance, but I haven't received any calls or anything." He added that Neve Campbell, who is reprising her iconic role as Sidney Prescott, hadn't shared any details about the new film with him.

Courtney Cox also addressed her own involvement in Scream 7, noting that she hasn’t "officially" signed on yet. "They’re constantly rewriting. It’s not like I’m completely out of the loop,” she stated. She expressed excitement about Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream in 1996 and will direct the upcoming film for the first time. "You really can’t make a better choice than him," she said, anticipating a fun experience ahead.
