Angelina Jolie Ends Legal Battle for FBI Records on 2016 Brad Pitt Incident

Angelina Jolie has officially ended her legal attempt to access FBI documents related to a 2016 incident involving her ex-husband, Brad Pitt. The Maleficent star initially filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in 2021 under the name "Jane Doe" to obtain these records. According to People, Jolie terminated her case on September 25, 2023.

The documents, which were heavily redacted, contained information about an altercation between Pitt and Jolie during a flight on September 14, 2016. Pitt allegedly yelled at and physically handled one of their children, claims he has consistently denied. Both the FBI and Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services investigated the incident but closed their inquiries by the end of 2016 without taking action against Pitt.

The plane altercation occurred just weeks before Jolie filed for divorce, ending her 11-year relationship with Pitt, which had started in 2005. After the separation, the former couple engaged in a prolonged custody battle over their six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox, all of whom were present during the incident.

In a separate 2022 lawsuit filed by Pitt regarding their shared vineyard, Jolie accused the actor of choking one of their children and striking another. Jolie’s lawyer, Amanda Kramer, emphasized the importance of victims having access to federal agency records related to incidents they reported. Kramer revealed that Jolie had faced challenges in obtaining these documents, prompting her legal pursuit.

The submission of the final documents on September 25 marks the end of Jolie's efforts to acquire the FBI records, closing this chapter of their ongoing legal disputes.
